Government Calls on Partner Countries and International Organizations to Participate in OIS 2026

JAKARTA (18/2) – The Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), has invited partner countries and international organizations to participate in the High-Level Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) 2026, which will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, on 8–9 June 2026.

The invitation was conveyed by Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono during the OIS 2026 Diplomatic Reception, jointly organized by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of State Secretariat, and Danantara in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/2). The invitation also follows the official announcement and open call delivered earlier by President Prabowo Subianto at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on 22 January 2026.

“We hope that heads of state, ministries, leaders of international organizations, business actors, researchers, academics, innovators, and the development partners will come together to formulate and deliver concrete and measurable outcomes at the Ocean Impact Summit. Through this reception, we seek the support of ambassadors and representatives of international organizations to convey Indonesia’s invitation to attend the Ocean Impact Summit 2026,” Minister Trenggono said in an official statement in Jakarta.

Carrying the theme “Unlocking the Potential of the Blue Economy,” the OIS 2026 summit will focus on four key pillars: the ocean as a source of food and nutrition; as a system for energy and modern infrastructure; as a natural system that strengthens climate action and protects ecosystems; and as a space for good governance, technology, and innovation.

The summit is expected to accelerate various ocean-based economic activities, including the modernization of capture fisheries and sustainable aquaculture, strengthening downstream bio-based industries, developing marine renewable energy and green port infrastructure, expanding marine protected areas (MPAs), advancing blue carbon initiatives, and promoting data-driven and AI-based ocean governance.

“We also encourage ambassadors to engage key stakeholders in their respective countries, particularly leading investors, private sector actors, and strategic partners, to actively participate in the summit. Their involvement will be essential in catalyzing partnerships and unlocking real investment opportunities,” Minister Trenggono added.

Unlike previous ocean forums, OIS 2026 adopts an action-oriented approach, focusing on catalyzing investment, developing collaborative initiatives, and strengthening ocean governance that can adapt to global challenges such as climate change, food security, energy transition, and digital information.

“The Ocean Impact Summit is different from other conferences because it brings impact-driven financing and investment for the ocean. For example, how shipping activities can become greener not as an additional cost but as an investment opportunity, and how coral reefs, seagrass, and seaweed can support sustainable financing through the economic value of blue carbon ecosystems,” said Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno, who provided remarks on the importance of the summit.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem Aldhaheri, expressed full support for the first-ever OIS to be held in Indonesia. As the world’s largest archipelagic country, Indonesia is seen as playing a key role in promoting synergy in sustainable ocean management and utilization for shared global interests.

“Of course I will encourage the UAE to join this summit. I see this as a good platform that will influence all parties connected to the ocean. Indonesia is the right country to introduce the ocean to the world in an accessible and systematic way,” he said.

The OIS 2026 Diplomatic Reception was attended by 73 embassies of partner countries and 11 international organizations, comprising 28 ambassadors, 50 embassy representatives at the level of deputy ambassadors and senior diplomats, and 16 representatives of international organizations. Representatives from relevant ministries and government institutions were also present at the event.
